IEC 60870-5-104

IEC 60870-5-104 is an international standard for the communication of control and substation via TCP/IP. The protocol is well known in Europe and Asia and mainly implemented for monitoring and controlling infrastructures (electricity, gas, water or pipelines) but also for networking central controls with decentralised energy producers, consumers or energy storages.

Scenario

  • Development of a device independent remote control system

  • Connection of multiple remote control stations

  • Read-only and edit access rights on stations

  • FlowChief solution: Process control, SCADA or portal solution

  • Possible operating variants: On-Prem, Hosting

  • Linkage of remote control devices (e.g. SAE, IDS) or PLC's with integrated 104 functionality (e.g. Phoenix PLCnext, Siemens S7 1500, Wago PFC 200, Beckhoff, etc.).

Highlights

  • IEC 60870-5-104 master with random number of parallel controllers

  • Optionally, end-to-end encryption via SSL/TLS (if supported by controller)

  • Read-only, edit and general requests

  • Time synchronisation and watch-dog
